"I thought you had it?"

Remember this Daily Discipline ("99% Responsibility = 100% Failure.") from September 2024?

It got a lot of attention. Top 10 most discussed and shared post that year. And it directly relates to the sometimes invisible but always impactful dynamic of a responsibility leak that I shared yesterday.

When someone assigns a responsibility but the other person doesn't accept it, and neither person checks or confirms, a leak is created.

The assigner believes the other person owns it. But the receiver doesn't accept it, or only partially does. The responsibility is unintentionally left unattended. It was let go by one person but not picked up by another. No one is holding it. No one owns it. And it leaks.

A responsibility leak is guaranteed to exist with anything that doesn't have 100% ownership and acceptance.

Not 90%.
Not 99%.

All responsibility can leak out of a 1% gap.

Preventing, fixing, and eliminating responsibility leaks requires acceptance of 100% responsibility. Anything less will leak, drip, and cause damage.

Make the leap. Do the work.
